KC EMC

KC EMC

KC EMC certification is required for any IT devices, home appliances, etc., when they include components that generate frequencies above 9 kHz. The scope is similar to that of CISPR, EN, and FCC standards.

The official name of the system is the Broadcasting and Communications Equipment Certification System.

Scope

KC EMC scope is not different than other regulations like CISPR, EN, FCC.

Wired/wireless communication devices, electric appliances, digital devices generating more than 9kHz etc. are within the KC EMC regulation.

The regulation states some terms which are in the scope.

  • Radio transmitting and receiving components” means an article consisting of an antenna (including antenna terminals) and an oscillation, modulation or demodulation, amplification, and amplification part of a radio frequency embedded in a shielded body or chip, which can be embedded or mounted in a system as a single component and is not intended for final consumer use.

Classification of conformity assessment system

There are three types of the conformity assessment system for KC EMC.

  1. Certification of Conformity
  2. Registration of Compatibility
    • Registration
    • Self-conformity declaration

Certification is normally applied to products having wireless communication functions such as WIFI with SAR required, RFID 900 MHz, etc.

Registration is normally applied to products having Bluetooth function or without wireless functions such as home appliances, digital devices.

Exemption for KC EMC

  • A. Equipment used for conformity assessment testing or for inspecting product quality and performance: 10 units or fewer
  • B. Equipment used for research and development of products and broadcasting/communication services: 1,500 units or fewer
  • C. Equipment displayed at exhibitions for the purpose of promoting new products, not for sale
  • D. Equipment used directly at international conferences or sporting events, not for sale
  • E. Sample equipment imported for domestic market research, not for sale and limited to 3 units or fewer
  • F. Equipment brought in by foreign engineers for temporary use in domestic industries, on condition that it will be re-exported within a certain period
  • G. Identical components or parts manufactured or imported for the maintenance and repair of conformity-certified equipment
  • H. Equipment manufactured or imported for military use
  • I. Equipment brought in for personal use, not for sale, and limited to 1 unit

Marking requirement

The following contents shall be marked on a product or a package.

  • KC mark
  • Model number
  • Certification/Registration number
  • Company name
  • Product name
  • Manufactured date
  • Manufacturer & Country

Exemptions for marking

In the following cases, only partial labeling on the equipment or packaging may be applied, or the full conformity assessment labeling may be omitted, provided that the remaining labeling information is included in the user manual (including electronic formats).

  • For small equipment with a maximum available labeling surface area of 400 ㎟ or less, only the KC Mark or the unique identification number may be displayed on the equipment or its packaging.
  • If the model name used in the conformity assessment application is the same as the one used for sales or promotion, only the KC Mark and model name may be displayed on the equipment or its packaging.
  • In cases where labeling on the surface or packaging is impractical—such as with implantable devices like pacemakers—labeling on the equipment or packaging may be omitted entirely.
